On Collecting:
An object, a life, and the time between
On Collecting explores the relationship between people and objects, and how that relationship begins, shifts, and gradually takes shape over time.
Some objects catch our attention for reasons we cannot quite explain. Perhaps it is their form, colour, or texture that makes our gaze linger for a moment longer. In that brief pause, the possibility of a relationship begins to unfold.
The Object:
Things we Met in Life
Over the course of a life, our eyes pass over countless objects, and our hands encounter things of every shape and scale. Some feel familiar, and others surprise us through the unexpectedness of the encounter.
At first, we come to know an object through the body: by looking, holding it gently, and sensing its presence. It may be the weight in the palm, carrying a slight coolness to the touch. Or only upon leaning closer does a lustrous surface reveal colours more intricate than they first appeared.
Some objects slip from memory almost at once. Others make us want to move closer. We begin to wish that they might remain with us, becoming part of the lives we shape around them.
Perhaps it is the shape, the colour, or simply the texture and sheen that makes the eye linger a second longer than usual. That brief pause feels like a quiet pull, and suddenly, a connection begins to form between person and object.
Perhaps its colour recalls a dusk once held dear; perhaps its clean, pure texture brings back the memory of a blessing once received; or perhaps, in its quiet glow, we recognise something of the stillness of moonlight. The object before us touches something already present within. When the two begin to resonate, what was once simply one object among many starts to feel distinct.
To choose is to recognise, among many possibilities, something that feels close to ourselves. In that choice, we also leave a trace of who we are in that moment: what we notice, what we cherish, and what we find ourselves drawn to.

A Subtle Pull Toward One
My Object:
The Relation Between us
In the relationship between people and objects, calling something “mine” can feel like a kind of promise. From that moment on, we accept that this object has a place in our lives, and the relationship truly begins.
Think of the things we have cherished: a small ceramic dish made by a daughter as a child; a cup spotted at a flea market in Europe; a ring a mother wore on important occasions; and a leather briefcase carried through the first years of a career.
The reasons they become ours are never quite the same. Some reflect a shared sense of taste, some hold the feelings we place in them, and some pass into our lives from the hands of someone who treasured them before us.
Beside, Behind
The Distance Made by Time
Some objects remain close for years, worn and used so often that their presence becomes almost unnoticed. Others gradually move to a quieter place in life. They may no longer appear every day, only to come close again at another moment.
Time changes not only how we see an object, but the distance between us. Sometimes beside us, sometimes behind us; some relationships stay close to daily life, while others settle softly into the background. These shifts in distance become part of the relationship itself.
Objects:
Coordinate in Life
An object does not need to leave our daily life to become a coordinate. It may still remain close, or it may have moved quietly into the distance. What matters is that, at some point, it entered into relation with a life.
And when we look at it again, we may see not only the object itself, but the way we once met it, lived with it, and moved through time together.
When an object moves through time with us, it comes to hold a place in a life. That place may belong to something still unfolding, or it may point toward a period already lived — a relationship, a choice, or a feeling known only to the person who carries it.
Maison Fawo
A piece of jewellery may be completed, but its meaning is not.
Maison Fawo creates each piece with the possibility that, in a certain moment, it may catch someone’s eye and enter their life. At first, it may be nothing more than a brief pause, an unspoken sense of recognition. Yet once it is chosen and worn, meaning begins to take shape. How it will be cherished and understood, and what place it may come to hold over time, is gradually written by the wearer, the jewellery, and the days they pass through together.
Perhaps one day, it will become a coordinate in someone’s life.
